Another seasonal survey research trip on the books
APRIL CRUISE REPORT
May 15, 2026
Our April 2026 RSA Seasonal Survey successfully sampled 49 stations on eastern Georges Bank aboard the F/V Regulus.
This trip documented several notable observations, including an encounter with a torpedo ray and higher-than-usual catches of ocean pout for this time of year. We also observed an atypical orange-pigmented scallop gonad and scallop seeds attached to a recruit-sized scallop shells.
The cover net had two sizeable catches of seed scallops, highlighting how this gear helps us catch and document scallops of all age classes. In contrast to the previous survey, Atlantic cod catches were notably lower, while haddock were relatively abundant throughout the sampling area.
Our next research trip is planned for June 2026. Follow along for continued updates from eastern Georges Bank and this long-term monitoring effort.
