Unusual Scallop Gonad Observations

March Seasonal Survey Cruise Report

March 30, 2026

Our March survey was completed on eastern Georges Bank examining bycatch and scallop conditions aboard the F/V Endeavor. We observed some unusual patterns in scallop biology, including atypical reproductive development and abnormal partial spawning. Our gear comparisons also showed that the cover net captured a wider range of scallop sizes, including smaller, pre-recruit individuals not typically retained by standard dredges. One standout observation recorded was an increase in Atlantic cod encountered during sampling. Our next survey is scheduled for April. Stay tuned for more updates from this important fishing ground.
