Parachute Sea Anchors: Supporting Offshore Squid Jigging
During CFF's October squid research trip, the team continued testing equipment used for automated squid jigging, including a 27-foot parachute sea anchor. This mini-documentary explores how the sea anchor reduces vessel drift, improves stability, and helps maintain the positioning of jigging lines, featuring footage of the equipment being deployed offshore.
Beyond supporting jigging, parachute sea anchors can help reduce fuel consumption and keep vessels on the fishing grounds while they are inactive or crews are sleeping. They also serve as offshore safety equipment, helping vessels ride out storms—including hurricanes and typhoons.
