Nathan Shivers, M.S.

Data Analyst

Nathan received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Connecticut in 2020, where he studied the impact of recreational fishery regulations on fish stocks of the East Coast of the USA. He then worked as an observer from the New England groundfish fishery, working on a variety of trawlers and gillnets in and around Massachusetts. Nathan joined CFF as an At-Sea Technician in 2021, where he assisted PIs on their projects offshore and helped in data wrangling and analysis. He then left in 2023 to start a master’s in biological oceanography at the University of Rhode Island. His research focused on lobster trap dynamics in the South Fork Wind Farm and building species distribution models for conge reel in Rhode Island waters. Nathan is excited to use his interests in statistical modeling, data visualization, habitat modeling, and movement ecology to develop better fisheries management and sustainable ocean usage.
